Ilfeld is a true classic that has been given the title of “world’s finest” for good reason. The brilliant black crystals are exceptional and so is this small cabinet specimen. It is just loaded with well terminated slender crystals to 2.5 cm. Some are also doubly terminated in areas. Ulrich Burchard had this specimen 20-plus years ago when I bought it from him.

This is one of those pieces where you will be pleasantly surprised upon opening the package. It consists of a single well terminated manganite, completely absent of the typical splintery texture so many of them have. Also, accompanied by triangular barites that amplify it. Wonderful classic from the type locality of Ilfeld, Harz Mountains, Germany.

Large black manganite spray in a double term that measures just under 4 cm long. It is located front and center from its nearby siblings. The other projecting spoke-like crystals are
all completely terminated too, giving the piece high marks in the aesthetic department for form. Each one
also has tapering prisms, in good condition.

Often grouped in massive bundles or in jumbled crystallization it is unusual to see a perfect spray, and nearly impossible to find in larger sizes. Not easy to come by, in fine condition.
