S18135 – Spessartine
This rather attractive and timeless California classic is an especially fine specimen of spessartine. The Little Three mine was named after the partnership of the original three owners. This mine and nearby Hercules dike have provided what many collectors consider to be the best matrix spessartine. No other locality in the world quite matches the look of these gem orange fireballs plopped atop microcline. This specimen is in good condition.
S15654 – Topaz
First opened in 1903, the Little Three mine is world-famous for gem-quality topaz that remain undoubtedly some of the finest examples of this mineral in North America. The mine is no longer in operation and such classic material is now uncommon. This particular piece sold in 1962 at the Del Mar show in California by Bill Schneider to Bill McBride.
S12846 – Spessartine
The Little Three mine was named after the partnership of the original three owners. This mine and nearby Hercules
dike have provided what many collectors consider to be the best matrix spessartine. No other locality in the
world quite matches the look of these gem orange fireballs plopped on handsome white clevelandite and schorl.
This large 3.3 x 3 cm garnet has almost no corrosion and is near end-member composition, such bright pure crystals
remain relatively rare. Louis Spaulding Jr. mined this piece during the mid 1970s, from there it was taken out of the
U.S. and sold to a private collector in Europe who prefers anonymity where it has been hiding ever since, perhaps
some 35 years! I will however release the name to the buyer. The price is net.
