S15926 – Rhodochrosite

N’Chwaning I Mine rhodochrosites have an exceptional, rich blood-red saturation and elegance about them that is highly coveted today. This piece is SUPERB because of its well terminated crystal to 4 cm in length, which is unusual, and even more so in undamaged scalenohedral form, especially at the tip. I cannot even begin to tell you how INCREDIBLY RARE this is in a large one. This specimen came from unbelievable jewel-like pockets during the 1970s. One of the top pieces in the Doug Macdonald collection. He was a Los Angles based collector who use to work for the L.A. County Museum of Natural History.
